We are really moving along. What is so exciting about making a functional object like an instrument is stringing it and hearing the first sound!! Tomorrow may be that day.

Things are getting exciting in The Strum Factory! We are almost finished fretting. Two coats of sealer are on the fret boards and two coats of milk paint on the bodies and head stocks. Touch up and final once over tomorrow ,and Friday the fun begins…… finishing! Then stringing and set up. It is like magic when you spend so much time making something and then you get to play it. Can’t wait to hear it next week!!!
Today we are cutting slots for frets and installing them in the neck. There is lots of sanding and fussing.
It has been a busy week at strum factory.com. We are making 25 dulcimer guitars. Today we milk painted bodies and are preparing for them for shellac. We love this instrument because it so easy to play, even for the musically challenged. Each instrument of these instruments has a custom drawing inside that documents what is around me here in Florida.
we are working on the last little details before the finishing process.
we are moving along on our new batch of Strummers. The new outdoor space is enclosed and comfy to work in.
This week the strum factory got more organized. Our jigs are made ,but as we assemble ,the instruments pile up on surfaces we need for working. We covered a wall with plywood and made these great racks for hanging them while work progresses. I also made a rack to hold all our parts.
It has been a busy day of steaming sides and glueing up parts. Loving the outside shop!
